Rann Utsav, Holiday in Gujarat

Come November and the whole of the arid region of Kutch turns into a spectacle of a vibrant and effusive amalgamation of cultural and traditional fun and festivity. Whenever we talk of desert in India, only the state of Rajasthan comes into our mind and we hardly try to venture to the other side of the Thar Desert. Located at the western edge of Gujarat, Kutch has never been the part of regular Holidays destination, but the ideas and efforts of the local villagers who were struggling to find enough work to sustain their lives, supported by the aggressive tourism promotion body of Gujarat Tourism, turned the same eco-system not conducive for any other activity, into a major Holidays attraction in that part of the world.

Rann Utsav usually starts from November and ends sometime in mid-February at the tent city, set at the edge of white rann in the kutch region of Gujarat. The Rann (Desert) Utsav offers premium tents to non ac tents which can suit the different pockets. The festival celebrates the actual color of the vibrant region, which displays itself in their various Rann Utsav arts and crafts, to be seen and purchased. One can walk through the stalls looking at the intricate yet wonderful embroideries on the linen, brightly colored leather products. The more curious and inquisitive visitors can also go for local sightseeing tours which includes historical palaces converted into museums, Handicraft products made by local artists, temples etc. This Utsav also offers the adventure zone, para motoring, Rifle shooting, Kids zone, Star Gazing. Bicycles, Spa centers, Conference Hall and Daily Yoga classes in Meditation Halls.

Kutch is very vast region and offers few historical insights also, therefore offering some local spots worth visiting. An organized tour itinerary can take you to the Narayan Sarovar or the thousand year old Kera Shiva Temple. If time permits you can also see the Sun Temple of Modhera which can be compared to the more famous Konark Sun temple. For nature lovers a variety of species like Indian wild asses, foxes and flamingo can be spotted here. Wild life sanctuaries of Kutch are famous for many species of birds that flock to the marshlands. Delicious local cuisines, walk on the white sands in the full moon night and sightseeing tour to white ran black hill for the spectacular sunset view will make your holiday in Kutch a memorable one.

In the evening, one can experience the enthralling traditional Gujarati Music and folk dance. Enjoy the delicious local cuisine and you will be in for an experience which cannot be matched anywhere in the world.
Plan a trip to Rann Utsav and reach Bhuj, you will be just 85 kilometers away from the annual show at White Rann.
